Japan will extend 416,270 US dollars in grant to Handicap International Federation through providing demining equipment and covering related expenditures. On March 4, 2021, Ambassador OKUBO Takeshi signed a grant contract with Ms. Caroline Duconseille, Country Manager of Handicap International Federation in Lebanon.
Handicap International Federation is an international NGO that has been serving vulnerable populations around the world; and Japan has partnered with the organization’s demining arm over five years to expedite the clearance of explosives in Lebanon. Recognizing the organization’s exceptional performance that is well attested through the previous partnerships, Japan has decided to further provide demining equipment and cover expenditures for its operation in Batroun, Bcharre, and Koura, North Lebanon. With this Grant assistance, Handicap International Federation will return access to safety to more than 9,410 beneficiaries.
At the signing ceremony, Ms. Caroline Duconseille expressed her sincere gratitude for the Japan’s constant support and trust for the organization. On the other hand, Ambassador Okubo stressed that the strong ties between the two parties expand the potential of the communities and reaffirmed his determination to further advance clearing mine areas across Lebanon
